Programs Available at Referee Summer Camp 2007
Referee Summer Camp 2007 is suitable for all males and females born in 1992 or earlier (i.e., 15 years of age or older on December 31, 2007) from any country in the world. Four different programs are available during Referee Summer Camp 2007.
"Quick Start" Program
A Full Time Program for New Officials
This 4 day program is a Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) certification event that is designed to kick-start the officiating career of persons born during or prior to 1992 that have no practical referee training or experience. Participants receive plenty of closely supervised on-ice training and actual game experience during the camp. off-ice training involves detailed studies of the rules, referee signals, duties of an official, officiating procedures and officiating positioning systems. The School will loan participants of this program referee equipment if required. Graduates of this program will leave the camp capable and qualified to function effectively as a junior member of any minor hockey association's officiating staff. Graduates also receive Hockey Canada Officiating Program certification for the 2007/2008 hockey season.
Note: Each Hockey Canada affiliated league/association has the right to determine the composition of their officiating staff. While Quick Start program graduates are capable and qualified to officiate minor hockey, the Canadian School of Hockey Officiating cannot guarantee graduates a position on the officiating staff of their favourite or local hockey league/association. New officials should contact their favourite/local hockey league/associations' referee coordinator or referee-in-chief to determine the prospect and expense of future employment.
"Junior Development" Program
A Full Time Program for Officials with Limited Experience
This 4 day program is a Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) recertification event for previously certified Level 1 and Level 2 officials that have 1 or 2 years of officiating experience. Emphasis is placed on knowledge of the rules, skill development and the technical aspects of officiating. Participation in this comprehensive training program will allow officials with limited experience to greatly improve their knowledge of the rules and elevate their on-ice abilities in a very short period of time. Graduates will leave the camp better able to function as a linesman at the highest levels of minor hockey and as an entry level referee. Graduates also receive Hockey Canada Officiating Program certification for the 2007/2008 hockey season.
"Best Ever" Program
A Full Time Program for Adults with Advanced Skills and Experience
This 3 day program is a Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) recertification event for persons born during or before 1988 that have, as a minimum, at least 3 years experience as an official. Participants must be a certified HCOP Level 2 official or higher. This program is specifically designed to be flexible and to challenge the officials, no matter how experienced. This comprehensive training program addresses on-ice judgement, advanced rule application and advanced skill development. Graduates will leave the camp better able to function as a referee at the highest levels of minor hockey. Graduates also receive Hockey Canada Officiating Program certification for the 2007/2008 hockey season. Participants may also upgrade to HCOP Level 3 (theory) or Level 4 (theory) by attending this program.*
* Eligible candidates only. Officials must obtain written authorization to upgrade from the appropriate governing body in their Branch.
"Senior Development" Program
A Part-Time Program for Experienced HCOP Level 2 & Level 3 Officials
This part-time program is a Hockey Canada Officiating Program (HCOP) recertification event for fully certified Level 2 & 3 officials that cannot attend the "Best Ever" program. This abbreviated program involves pre-camp study, one complete training day (including one on-ice training session) on Monday August 20, 2007 plus a game assignment and performance evaluation during the evening of either Wednesday August 22 or Thursday August 23. Graduates will leave the camp better able to function as a referee at the highest levels of minor hockey. Graduates also receive Hockey Canada Officiating Program certification for the 2007/2008 hockey season.
